Thoroughly protect the hairline, ears and neck with Vaseline or skin cream. Also protect the environment, for example with newspapers, as the dye is runny. Wear gloves.

The colour is ready to use straight from the bottle and the remaining colour can be saved for later. Colours can be mixed together and, if necessary, soften with Clear for pastel shades, for example.

  • Apply the colour to clean, dry hair or towel-dried hair if you want a lighter shade
  • Saturate the hair thoroughly with dye. The colour can be applied with a brush, a nozzle bottle or an application tool
  • Leave on for 30 minutes
  • Wash your hair twice with shampoo
  • Apply about 40 millilitres of Lock evenly to towel-dried hair and leave on for five minutes. Rinse thoroughly
  • Finish with a normal conditioner.

Colour permanence and coverage depend largely on the quality of the hair and the colour used. It usually takes two to three colouring sessions before the colour is layered and no longer fades.

Please note that Elumen is a translucent colour, so the shade below is important and any highlights will be visible. In addition, Elumen reflect light, so the hue varies depending on the lighting.

To ensure the best possible outcome:

  • Wash your hair with a deep cleansing shampoo to remove all styling product residue and silicone build-up.
  • Styling and conditioning products neutralise the hair’s electrical charge, which impairs colour adhesion. Do not use leave-in conditioner and, if possible, do not use conditioner at all.
  • Hair should be completely dry after washing, as Elumen repels water and vice versa. Applying the colour to damp hair means a milder finish.
  • There can be big differences in colour adherence between users, depending on the porosity of the hair. Highly porous hair has plenty of room for Elumen, while low-porosity (glassy) hair doesn’t want to absorb anything. Under normal conditions, there is a negative charge in the hair and structural damage to the hair increases this negative charge. Previous colouring, hair tools and structural treatments, etc. have a big impact. Prepare optimises the hair to receive the dye and that’s why we always recommend it, so that the starting point is the best possible and all variables are taken into account.
  • Cover the hair thoroughly with colour. The hair should be saturated with colour.
  • To keep the dye moist and warm, cover your hair with a plastic hood, clingfilm, shower cap or similar. The heat released from the body helps the colour to be absorbed because the warm hair cuticle is open. Elumen colour that has dried on the head will not have any colouring effect.
  • At the end of the treatment period, wash your hair twice with shampoo to remove excess dye.
  • The purpose of the Lock is to lock the dye to the hair.
  • Rinse off the lock thoroughly and use a conditioner.
